Chunky Monkey

Penny is getting rather chunky. I am wondering if she's just over eating (she eats the same things as Krikkit and I don't give them a ton of nuts.... (mostly fruit, oatmeal, veggies, rodent block, etc.) I do give them some in shell nuts and I give them pecans as treats but I give them equal amounts ...

Re: Help with pup.

Skittles is doing well and is up to almost 3mL at a time now! I took a barely damp paper towel and ran it over her to clean her up a bit but now she has a "oily" look to her now that won't seem to go away. She dried that way after I wiped her down and its been 2 days now. What is the best ...

Help with pup.

OK, the pup (now named Skittles) is eating well and knows its time to eat when I pull the syringe out. I had to wrestle it away from her this afternoon as she tried to feed herself (from the wrong end) She's also eating pine nuts and small bits of cheerio/fruit that I put into her box. At wha...

LOL! My daughter (9) and I were discussing "death by cuteness" ;) I do feed him when I hear/feel him moving about. He's getting to the point where he'll actually stay up for a bit after I feed him. He is in a small box with shredded fleece half on a heating pad to keep him warm when he's n...

I found a pup! Is this enough?

I found a pup a couple of days ago. Actually DH found him and yelled... "I think there's one of your flying squirrel things out here." I scooped him off of the cement behind the car. I have no idea what tree he came from. He must have crawled a good distance unless he fell off of the roof....

Cool toy! Anyone tried it?

I was looking at bird toys and came across this toy. I was thinking it would be nice for flying squirrels. Its filled with nuts. Hey, I could make one out of bamboo (we have a huge grove on our back lot). I'd just need a drill. ;) http://pet.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pPETS-3759083t400.jpg

We are in the strike zone as well, but further inland. We had a lot of people here that evacuated for Gustav. Here's hoping that Ike doesn't cause too much damage!

Penny's tail did that as the hair was growing back in... I'm not sure if it was the fuzz that made it look darker or if the skin actually darkened but it looked darker. She wouldn't let me inspect it closely

Re: Thinking about getting a FS, have a few questions

Yes, the initial cost is the biggie (the squirrel and the cage). After that the food isn't much because I just give them bits of what we are eating (the healthy bits) and the seed mix (which lasts a while). You can find lots of stuff in the yard to feed them as well, as long as there aren't chemical...

I've heard that many won't eat the rodent block but mine do. My male actually likes them quite a bit. He'll eat most of the block and then I'll find a pea sized bit left over. Maybe he doesn't have room to hold and gnaw that bit at the same time? LOL! Anyhow. I wouldn't make it 90% of the diet but m...

My sister and I were shopping at petco and came across this toy. I first thought.. how cute! Then it dawned on me that, hello, its a dog toy! Training your dog to go after squirrels in holes is a bad thing.

Poor baby. :( At least its last few hours were comfortable as could be. Belling cats doesn't always work, even if they don't remove the bells. They catch by stealth and can move so that the bells don't ring. Also, it won't protect small babies that cannot get out of the way, even if they do hear the...
