Re: What happended to Spaz?????

Thank you for your compassion and support. I know I should have had the necropsy done but we've already explained everything to the kids and are waiting for my husband now to finish digging the hole in our yard to have our special place for him. It's really sad. I know the necropsy is important b/c ...

What happended to Spaz?????

:( Last night I went to feed Spaz and he did run out to greet me like usual...I got really scared and couldn't see him anywhere and was hoping he hadn't escaped the cage and was lost in the house somewhere. Finally he peeked his little head out of his house, I was so relieved. But he still wasn't ac...

Thanks, it actually looks a little filled in today. I can't see the bare skin. But it was circular shaped and completely bald last night....
I may be giving too much protein....

bald spot

Last night I noticed a small, totally bald spot on Spaz's head. This seems very strange to me. He doesn't seem bothered by it and so far I haven't noticed any redness or any in other spots on him. He isn't eating ok, not quite as much as usual but sometimes he does that. He changes what he likes to ...

Re: Need Treat Ideas!

When the troop went last year we also went to NASA, but didn't do any sleepovers. Our leader was too cheap..... NASA was a little chaotic for me. Probably b/c I had my then 1 and 3 yr. olds with me and went as a "tag a long" and ended up having to chaperon 4 very energetic 11 year olds as ...

Re: Need Treat Ideas!

Awwww, that is so cool! What zoo are ya'll at? Is the giraffe indoors? My daughter's troop went to the Houston Downtown Aquarium last summer and that was cool. But this year the leader has decided to save their cookie earnings to go on a big trip next year. Hersey, Pennsylvania...???? It bothers me ...

Sounds yummy....lucky monkeys!!! Bet the squirrels would love it, good for them too.
I'm sure the Girl Scouts had a ton of fun, especially throwing them to the monkeys, my daughter's troop never done anything fun like that........

Re: Need Treat Ideas!

Spaz loves rose and lilly petals, but only certain lillys. We have some red ones in the yard, not sure of the name but he loves them. I was expecting him to like day lillies but he did not. He also really likes banana chips, fresh raw green beans, leafy strawberry tops, and spinach leaves. One of th...

Re: During bonding time, how long did you keep flyer out of cage

Hey Arien, I'm trying to figure out how to send private messages. I'm having a problem and need some advice. I'm going to attempt sending you a private message, I haven't had any luck with it in the past. They seem to stay in my outbox but never go into my sent items. Please let me know if you get t...

Re: bamboo leaves ok???

I guess they would be ok as long as they are 100% natural and wouldn't splinter. I bought wood pieces from Petsmart that are for chewing. They are about 1 inch wide and 3 inches long. But he likes to chew on the ends of the dried bamboo too. I've given Spaz some new foods lately....raw, in the shell...

Re: Urine odor

I tried hanging the absorbent cage liners on the sides of the cage where Spaz was doing most of the peeing, now he just goes to the other side of the cage to do it....I need to try the slipper thing. I wonder why they all seem to do it on the cage sides, and out the sides....... [-X

Re: bamboo leaves ok???

Spaz seems to like the stems of the bamboo better than the leaves, I think there is something inside, b/c he just goes crazy for them. I guess that is what bamboo chutes are...... The cockatiels were terrified of it though! It was like I had put snakes in their cage! I guess it was just something th...

Re: During bonding time, how long did you keep flyer out of cage

I would love to be able to get to Biloxi or Pensacola in an hour! Sounds like to perfect place! We go to Biloxi for Spring Break and Navarre in the summer. Its going to be hard with the gas prices but we go crazy if we don't go. We actually waited until Labor Day last year to go. I really liked it t...

bonding pouch

Where can I get a bonding pouch? Are they fully closed in? I would like to start trying to bond more with Spaz like I know he needs but I'm afraid he will jump off me, get scared when I try to catch him, and run off and hide somewhere. With my other pets I cannot let that happen. I've never even see...

Awwww, too too cute!!!! I now have a chow mix...very beautiful, smart, and perfect dog. She is the best. Never thought I'd have a chow, had always been scared of them. But when I saw her as a puppy it was love at first site. She has been such a great dog, not quite as hairy as chows and w/o the mane...

Re: Flyer Friendly/Unfriendly States

Louisiana is already on the non-friendly list but I just wanted to let everyone know I did call the wildlife and fisheries here in central La.just to see what they would tell me. I was told no, of course. That the only way it was ok is if the cage is outside and open for them to come and go. Oh, and...

Re: During bonding time, how long did you keep flyer out of cage

Hi Arien, I've been reading your posts about the bonding pouch. How long have you had pikachu? I too am new at the bonding, the most bonding Spaz and I have done has been through the cage and when I stick my hand in and pet him. He is so hyper and the times when I've tried to hold him he jumps on th...

help with Spaz's age

Can anyone help me figure out Spaz's age? He found us on March 5, 2008. At that time I looked at a website with pictures and ages and figured he was about 17 weeks. I do not think that was accurate now from seeing everyone's pics here. I started out formula feeding him about 3 times daily and then d...

Re: Review of The NFSA

I gave her a few cheerios last night and she started eating on one of them, until I gave her a piece of dried oatmeal. She loved the oats, I think that is all she ate last night, except for the bamboo and a few chopped pecans. She used to eat a ton of nuts and dried dried fruit every day but has bee...

bamboo leaves ok???

Is it ok for flying squirrel to eat bamboo? I put it dried in my Spaz's cage for her to climb on and she has always chewed on it. I figured it is good for her teeth. But when I put the dried leaves in her cage she ate it. I was planning to put a green piece that I just cut down with fresh leaves on ...

Great info! I have heard that flyers bond easily. My Spaz is very sweet. When I come to her cage she reaches her arms out and grabs my finger tight. At first I didn't know if I should keep the flying squirrel as a pet b/c of caging a wild animal. But I feel so much better about it now. I do have one question about th...
