Dexter the deviant squirrel...

Hello everyone! Long time no posts. I just wanted to chime in and talk about my friend Dex. We acquired him in late January. He has been doing great and he's a little chub nut garbler. He has bonded extremely well to Chris and I and I can't figure out why we didn't get one sooner. I'm just going to ...

Re: Potty training

I'm betting he'll just ignore it but I'll give it a shot. I'll just do some thought out re-arranging. Luckily I lined the shelves with fleece so they are easier to walk on and washable. Sometime I catch him hanging onto the bars of the cage a peeing which on one hand cracks me up but on the other ha...

Re: New squirrel advice

Hi Dale! I recently acquired my first FS about 2 weeks ago. He is a pup and still drinking formula from a syringe. I'm a beginner FS owner though I have fostered a variety of small animals both domesticated and not so much... He is a bit of a handful (speaking from a newbie stand point) but not as m...

Potty training

Anyone have any good tips on potty training. Dex has a spot picked out on one of the shelves of his cage but it's dead in the middle. About 3 inches from the tiny corner littler pan I bought (of course). #-o

Lol @ Joan. I admit I'm a little twisted but it gives me character :smt029 I have had hard time with names for awhile now... So here he is. This is his 2nd day in his new home. We picked him up yesterday and we couldn't be more delighted. He's a trooper. What a long car ride! He came home and ate like a champ. No problems what so ever. I still haven't got a name for him. I like Dexter but we can't seem to agree on it (Chr...

Re: Has the silver fox experiment been done on the sfs yet?

This is a fascinating post. I hear alot of people saying that it's hard to breed due to the fact that they have so few pair and that the pairs don't go into breeding mode at the same time. I think it would be hard to breed for temperament. I'm not a fan of breeding for color though. All things consi...

I've been looking for dormice here in the US but since the embargo deal with African rodents my search has came up empty. Game Breeder's permit (A nice loophole for squirrel owners)

I have found a nice little loophole here in the state of IL. It's called a Game Breeder's permit and it allows us to have SFS. I suggest checking with your local Department of Resources to see if it allows the species your looking to get (or have). I know many of us call the USDA BUT squirrels are w...

Has anyone gone to any specific airport recently to pick up their squirrel? Could you please tell me about the procedure? Do I need a usda license for pick up in certain states? Anyone in Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa or Ohio.

Reasons you shouldn't use chain mail: It will pinch and could possibly damage or sever little paws O rings aren't stable enough since one good bite could break the link (or more than likely open the ring up) Most o-rings are plated metal. You don't want any type of plating getting into your animals ...
