Bonding....

Aside from our shared love of nature my parents and I have never been very close in my adult life. My step dad and I try to take a backpacking trip together once a year and I sometimes have dinner with them when I come to pick up my son when they watch him but aside from that we share very little in...

Re: Images of Flyers

I'm sure I can use it, thank you! I will still really need an image of a SFS on a feeder though.

Re: Images of Flyers

I am an Arbobist( tree worker.) From time to time I come across the nests of wild Flyers. That is how I first became interested in the little guys. Unfortunately these nests are often located in trees or branches that are scheduled for removal. I have always done my best to edjucate the property own...

Images of Flyers

I need images of Flyers for a revised pamphlet I'm putting together. Particularly wild flyers eating at feeders. Any help would be great.

baby squirrel vomiting

I have two 3-5 week old babies. I have been feeding them the puppy formula/heavy whip mixture every 4 hours(ish). One of them it vomiting up the mix. Most recently she 'held it down' for two hours before puking it up. The other one has not seemed to have any problem with the feeding schedule or the ...

Re: wood for squirrels

Well live & learn, who woulda thunk it from a wild cherry tree! Even if the squirrels know best, why not avoid the risky limbs since there are so many other choices. Thanks for the tip! No problem! On the upside if you have a problem with wild legomorphs or rodents girdling trees in your area n...

Re: wood for squirrels

While I realise this is a bit late coming I would also advise against using any wood from the Prunus (cherry) family many of which do grow wild. These woods (especially cherry) contain an agent very similar to cyanide in their bark. I would avoid them just to be safe.

Re: Can you put a Squirrel and a Sugar Glider together?

Good move Joan! Me thinks I may be in large part responsible for the diversion. While most of the discussion has been fun, it did take on a life of its own & probably belongs in an "off topic" forum. Hi natecary, I sure wish the "oakmen" around here thought like you!!...

Re: Can you put a Squirrel and a Sugar Glider together?

We are way off topic here, but roaches may count too.... The first time I posted on here (arborists....) I got some pretty interesting responces. So many people seemed surprised that an arborist (tree worker, for lack of a better term) would put so much thought into the natural world around them. On...

Re: Can you put a Squirrel and a Sugar Glider together?

See if you can get this flyer/chippy person to come on here and tell us more. Tell him we're all friendly and are up-to-date on our shots. :D Judy C. He saw something I had written on facebook about having been able to pet wild flyers during my adventures in trees. This was before I had discovered ...

Re: Can you put a Squirrel and a Sugar Glider together?

I was in Ireland for almost a month in 2002, and I did see Chipmunks for sale in most of the pet stores I happened to wander into. I do not believe they are native there, but would have to cross reference... These pets were very friendly, and eager to interact. I also know that a pet store near my h...

Re: Can you put a Squirrel and a Sugar Glider together?

I recently communicated (very briefly) with an individual on line who kept his Flying Squirrel(s) and Chipmunk(s) together. I have no idea how many of each... I do know he lives in an area that each species is native too (arborist ...) I kept my oppinion to myself as I have never owned either ...

Re: Arborists and nests.

Wow! I REALLY appreciate every ones help with this. On average I would say I only run accross about two nests (that I am aware of) a year. And I loved the knock on wood reference. They DO seem to do that if I knock on a tree they inhabit. For the record I have previously contacted my local humane sc...

Arborists and nests.

I am an ISA certified arborist (tree climber/tree worker,) and I at times come across these delightful little creatures in my adventures in the trees. I have two mane areas of concern. The first is the amount of stress I may put on these aniumals while working on a tree but leaving there nest intact...
