Re: Possible Broken Back. Help!

I don't have a vet that i know or trust that has seen them before. But if it's a broken back is there much they can do? It's probably either euthanasia or do nothing, which i'm sure they won't do. Any suggestions for pain? She's been dragging herself around and going places, not much luck with food ...

Re: Possible Broken Back. Help!

Upon closer inspection it looks like she may have broke her back. I'm not sure if it's because both girls lost their tails as babies in a logging accident or if it's something else, but from time to time when they play they'll fall from whatever they were holding on. It has happened since they were ...

Possible Broken Back. Help!

I have had my flyers for almost two years now. This morning I woke up to one of my flyers nesting in my nightstand, which is very unusual. She came out a few minutes later, and i knew something was wrong immediately. Upon closer inspection, she was dragging both her hind feet behind her, crawling ar...

Honey?

Mommy found out that my girls love honey. She puts a tiny drop on a little dish and smears it around, and they eat it all and then go wild. I read the topic about Honey Warning, but I am not sure if it's okay for my girls? They don't get it more than once a week, and they aren't young (I can't belie...

Re: Newbie question - flyers and predators?

I confess I have a cat, but I NEVER let them close to each other. The flyers don't seem to know, I just take EXTRA precautions with them. I wash my hands thoroughly, and try not to hold the cat and then go in and play with the squirrels. I always take care of the squirrels before I take care of the ...

Has anyone seen this from a post on the Squirrel Board? I know it happened quite a while ago, but I just read it, and it is so upsetting. http://mynorthwest.com/874/2212509/A-Flying-Squirrel-is-Euthanized-Against-a-Kirkland-Womans-Wishes It just makes me more upset that I have two flyers that I know...

Re: Licking and Biting? Health?

Oh thank you. That makes me feel better. They like to lick and groom each other a lot, so maybe they are just showing their affection to me too. I don't wear lotion often, so I don't think that would be it. More recently Bumpity has been grabbing my ears and cleaning them. It tickles so much, but sh...

Licking and Biting? Health?

I noticed that my flyers (but particularly the one) are licking my skin a lot. They like to eat my cuticles, and if I have any calluses or scabs they like to pick on them. They rarely bite hard enough to make me bleed, but still it can feel a little sore sometimes. Today one of them keeps licking my...

Re: Guard Squirrel

Awww, how cute! I haven't noticed them alerting me to strange noises, but I noticed from when they were just little pups that if one of them got lost or was away from the other for a time longer than she wanted, she would cheep and cheep until I came and 'rescued' her sister and reassured her that e...

Re: Bloat?

:D Yes, I have experienced the same worries when I rescued my flyers. After several months, I settled down and made it more simple for them. I have always given them a small dish of water (I use distilled just so it's clean) and they drink from it whenever they want. I try to keep everything as clea...

Re: hello everyone!!!

I'm sure you will love your new pets. Just be careful with your SFS's coming in contact with your other pets. I would advise not letting them get close. My squirrels are always in my room with the door closed, and I never let my dog or cat come in my room. Just want to be safe. :)

Have fun! :D

Hello! and pics :)

Hello! I've been on here for a while, but haven't done a proper intro. I decided now's the time to do it! I live on a 72 acre farm. I have a dog, cat, and, of course, my two flyers. For years, ever since I read a story about a lady who rescued a squirrel, I've wanted one. I've had other baby animals...

Health?

Hello everyone, My flyers are almost 16 weeks old, and I have determined that they are both females. They seem to be doing very well, especially for having been rescued from the wild, but they do act a bit different from what you all have described. I was wondering what you look at to determine if t...

Re: worried about my 2 months habits

Yes, I totally agree with Joan. I've noticed that as long as I am paying attention to what they are doing when they are playing, they'll stay stock still and won't move very much. The minute I start reading my book, they'll go wild-running, jumping, and playing. However, when they see something &quo...

Thank you! :) That makes me feel better. I was primarily worried about him lacking some nutrient. I'm trying to work on potty training and keeping them from chewing things other than what's in their cage. :)

Chewing on Wall???

Hi everyone, Yesterday I started to notice that my one flyer was trying to chew on the wall in my bathroom while he was playing. I stopped him, but he kept trying to go back and chew it. (Our walls are white, but I was worried about the paint). They get dark fresh greens every night along with fruit...

Siberian (or Japanese Dwarf) Flying Squirrel

Hi everyone, I was wondering if there are any breeders for the Siberian flying squirrel here in the U.S. They are so cute! They seem to get attached to people and want to be with them a lot. I heard leads that someone was trying to import some to breed, but I can't seem to find any. Do you know of a...
