We need a companion, or two...

We have an approx. 8 /9 mos. old female SFS who since she was tiny , was being raised with another baby male with plans for a slow release this Spring. Sadly, her male companion unexpectedly (we accept full responsibility) released himself, without her and before we were ready. Needless to say, this...

Re: Lost mate, now alone, what do we do for her?

It’s been over a week. I’m not giving up; going to leave his cube and food out, attached to the outside of the enclosure. But it’s getting milder here, and if he did survive by a miricle, he’s probably far away in the woods with a colony ( hopefully). I know success is no guarantee for a hard releas...

Re: Lost mate, now alone, what do we do for her?

Will do, and thanks for info. that hopeful return is possible . We hung two additional nest boxes on the outside of the wire, directly across from the cube they slept in together. Will keep their nightlight on; for bug hunting, and hopefully a guide for him to find his way back to his foster sister/...

Lost mate, now alone, what do we do for her?

I have had these two since last October, two young Southern Flyers that came to me at approx. 8-10 weeks of age ( a M and F). After overwintering, and bonding , and lack of a local colony, we made the decision to give them the best forever home we could. They enjoyed a huge cage during the day, and ...

Artificial Christmas Tree

We have an artificial Christmas tree that has seen better years; time to retire it. If I stripped down all the old wires, and fake pine cones, and just left the tree and it's branches, could this be a safe add on to their playroom??

Safe size /age to move into cage

So we've had these two babies approx three weeks now (two, measure about 5/6" from tail to nose. They are still I. The plastic tub we modified ( about 18" by 12" by 12") . Every night I add fresh branches, and foods. I'm still not convinced eating enough. I always provide a small...

Re: First Southern Flyers ( babies) questions

I agree , they are already training me well it seems .... I'll let them decide, I guess , by Spring.... if they are nipping and irritable vs cuddling and content, that will remove all doubt hopefully :)

Re: First Southern Flyers ( babies) questions

Thanks for the info., and the honesty! We will get a larger enclosure ASAP, and the boxes. Like I said, the non release greys live life to the fullest; in a huge outdoor room with woodland accessories... they don't know they have handicaps; ( two head traumas with some neurological deficits; one wit...

First Southern Flyers ( babies) questions

I just acquired two baby southern flyers this week, 3 days apart. They are wild, and I am being monitored by a licensed rehabber, as a helper under her permit. They appear ( best can tell by charts) between 7-10 weeks old?but this eatimate could be off. They both have tiny white teeth, but only want...
