Re: Male bonding

I have a male flyer that I found a male companion for. How long will it take for the two to bond? The male I already have is 6 years and the new addition is about 8 months Not sure they will. The males tend to be solitary and roam a wider range in the wild. You will just have to see how they get al...

Re: Looking to add a male

I have 2 that I am trying to find homes for. One is a 3 month old boy, who's momma wants him OUT! He has been sleeping by himself in a nest box away from the others and I think she's the driving force behind that. Poor little guy. I also have a litter of 6 week olds if you prefer. Boy I can relate ...

Might be a combination of the diet and stress. Sometimes hair loss comes back white or gray temporarily. Anyway, they are nocturnal and I'm sure he enjoys being up all night and giving YOU gray hair!

Don't give up that she will return. I have had the same thing happen and the runaways comes back home. If their cage is in a flyer proof room you can just leave the cage door open and they usually return to the nestbox. Keep us informed.

I doubt he is being over supplemented but I will keep it in mind because it is possible. It is an effort to get him to eat nutritious foods. Always remember he can only eat what you give him. He has no choice. A good varied diet of dark green veggies (Contains vit D2 which flyers can concert into D...

Do you have her jump between the her staff HOFs for fun and exercise? This is often a way to get them active in day time. This video is from Japan:

Re: Duration of activity time, and things to do (help!)

All flying squirrels are different in their sleep/wake activity. Most will be active and them take naps. The older they get, the more the prefer daytime sleeping and are active at night. I used to wake Chuck for day times classes at a county nature park and he'd be active when taken out of my shirt...

It's probably illegal to sell domestic flyers especially if they are endangered. Some States in the US make it illegal to capture or sell flyers. This is in the odd areas where a Northern flyer subspecies lives in mostly Southern flyer ranges ... such as the mountainous areas of North Carolina.

Don't worry this is just his nature. When you are with him have you tried letting him sleep in your tucked-in shirt instead of a pouch? I never used a pouch and Chuck just slept in my shirt when I went about my day. Having him next to you and sleeping against you is bonding too.

Does she have other things to chew on like tree branches? They have teeth like beavers that are constantly growing and need smething to keep them files down.

Pain meds with the anti-inflammatory is a good choice. You usually have to look up rodents (mice) for treatment as not much on flying squirrels. My friend Tom had a flyer once who's head had been caught in a mouse trap. Little thing survived under his care. He ended up naming her Crack Head. :twist...
