Try to keep him in a smaller cage so it isn't as active. These little fellow have amazing recuperative abilities. You can't splint them anyway.

My fiancé should ignore him? Wouldn’t that distance her more? Or will that bring squirrel to her? They can't stand being ignored and unless he's going to be a One-HOF flyer, he'll try to get her attention. This should be done when you are not around to distract him. Also. .. Kent is probably 1.5 years ... He’s also been nipping at me more often which we’ve already gone thru and he’s knows not to do. This may be hormonal and related to puberty .. Re: Is a southern flying squirrel as a pet good for me and the fuzzy friend?

I've known about southern flying squirrels for a while now. I have been thinking more seriously about this, but to be honest I'm still a :n00b: 1. There's this whole trend of exotic pocket pets, where people are adopting animals that are clearly not suited for life with a human, and neither the pet...

Your experience with rodents is good. I left woodpecker seeds blocks in my cage as a go to whenever. If he likes rodent food .. great. Lots of flyers won't eat prepared foods unless started on them as pups .. ie Monkey Biscuits. Just remember to try things once refused as they can love it one day a...

They can all be fussy eaters ... loving something one day and refusing it the next. You are doing the correct thing with a variety and holding off on fruits (they do have a sweet tooth). Don't give up that she will return. I have had the same thing happen and the runaways comes back home. If their cage is in a flyer proof room you can just leave the cage door open and they usually return to the nestbox. Keep us informed.

Re: Duration of activity time, and things to do (help!)

All flying squirrels are different in their sleep/wake activity. Most will be active and them take naps. The older they get, the more the prefer daytime sleeping and are active at night. I used to wake Chuck for day times classes at a county nature park and he'd be active when taken out of my shirt...
