Re: Sadly

I can't believe your little guy is gone just a week after you had helped me thru my own loss. I wish there was a way to turn back time and know when their last day is near to change those last minutes you are with them but sadly there isn't. It still brings tears to my eyes wishing for something I k...

Re: I'll miss you Mika...

Thanks for all the supportive words (and for the beautiful poems, etc, on these boards). I really does help as much as I wish this whole thing was just a very bad dream. She was the sweetest little girl :(

I'll miss you Mika...

After all my little Mika has been through- surviving major eye surgery and then nursing her back to health after a tooth incident- I never thought it would be now that I'd have to come here to say my goodbyes to her. Everything is still so fresh in my memory- I can't get the horrible memories of her...

Went from better to worse :(

Just wondering if there's anything I can do to help Mika until I can get ahold of her vet first thing when they open tomorrow. She's suddenly gone from looking better to suddenly being worse than I've ever seen her. I have no idea what's going on. She was due for her checkup this week & to see i...

Re: Another issue: Missing Bottom Tooth Causing Problems

Ok went to vet Thursday... by the time we got her in she really started licking herself more and just looked more scrawny and not acting at all like herself. She didn't even want her non-shell pecans which she was just snatching from us just days before to eat. She also started urinating more freque...

Re: Another issue: Missing Bottom Tooth Causing Problems

Thanks for the thoughts everyone! I got an appointment for her Thursday so we'll see what they think and let them be the evil ones to clip her teeth for the millionth time. She's probably going to think they're removing another eye though since it will be the same place she had her eye surgery at ;)...

Re: Another issue: Missing Bottom Tooth Causing Problems

Thanks! I was also thinking about that as well. I guess the vet wouldn't have caught it had it been in its early stages at the time as she wasn't showing any other signs back then... or possibly its just recently grown into this.

Another issue: Missing Bottom Tooth Causing Problems

Apparently my squirrel likes to keep me stressed out over her. Several months ago during the summer I noticed her top teeth seemed a little longer than usual. I thought maybe she was getting lazy so I took everything soft out of her cage and stuck plenty of nuts to break open and chew things. I woul...

Re: Question about Saving Wild mouse/rat

Thanks! Yeah I need to start keeping my real camera on me :) I'll try to get better pictures as soon as I get the chance to visit my friend's place. She's trying to find her lost camera in the mean time. She says so far she's doing well and hasn't shown any aggression or signs of sickness. She'll si...

Question about Saving Wild mouse/rat

Ok... I just need some advice about a mouse/rat rescue. First off, here's some pics of what a friend and I rescued with a have-a-heart trap: http://s288.photobucket.com/albums/ll188/linaiiz/Rodent/ Can anyone tell if this a mouse or baby rat? The pics are from my cell phone... hence the bad quality....

Changing Laws?

In the following articles, they discuss Georgia and how it has changed its laws to allow sugar gliders as pets as long as they have USDA permits. Apparently one of the senators brought a sugar glider to the senate floor and pulled it out for everyone to see. It made me wonder if there was some way t...

Townhouse Hideout

After moving and having to unfortunately hide my squirrel in my new place, I had to come up with a disguise for her new living quarters. So after much thinking and brain storming, we decided to modify a cheap 2 door wood cabinet. Mika always preferred sleeping in drawers and cabinets in my house ove...

Update Pics: Very Swollen Eye

Just thought I'd post some pre and post-operative pics of Mika's eye surgery so everyone can see how she's healed: This was before surgery... she couldn't close her eye and it could not be saved. She went from a healthy winter coat and extra body weight to sickly and wet looking... http://i288.photo...

Re: Swollen Cheek

Just an update on her cheek... the swelling has gone down but still not sure what started it and if the antibiotics are really helping it or if it's all a coincidence and it's healing on its own (maybe a reaction or something?). She still has a week to go on the medication so I guess we'll see what ...

Re: Swollen Cheek

Yeah same here... and will be for a little longer  Took her in today and they couldn't tell what was wrong- just that it wasn't normal looking- so they gave us antibiotics to give to her for a week and see if it responds (I think she did this on purpose to get her twice daily doses of pecan ic...

Swollen Cheek

Well after Mika has already gone through a swollen infected eye and had it surgically removed around Easter (which healed beautifully), she now has a slightly swollen looking cheek (neck/jaw area)... ironically on the same side the eye was removed. I read a post about the possibility of an abscess a...

I'm very relieved to report that Mika had her eye removed yesterday at 11 am and so far she's doing well :D I was really worried about the anesthesia- not including the surgery itself- on such a small animal but thankfully she pulled through. It was the toughest decision to make (and the hardest day...

I guess it's a frustrating waiting game then. I'm hoping for the best of course whatever that may be. So the eye must be removed if it's damaged but the infection is controlled? Or would it be harmful staying in either way? She's taking the eye ointment well... it's the oral she's fighting. I did ge...

Well we got her into the clinic earlier today. Apparently the infection is in the eye itself and not the surrounding skin so they said the eye might be lost. I just don't understand how she can go from perfectly fine to drastically swollen within a day's time. She was prescribed an antibiotic oral l...

Very Swollen Eye

Hi, just was wondering if anyone could help me with my flyer. Mika's eye is very swollen, weeping, and it doesn't seem like she can shut it. I came home from work last night to give her her dinner and discovered her eye. I don't know what happened... nothing else seems to be injured. After reading s...

hahaha... Yeah, animating (or any kind of editing) can test your patience but it gets easier after your first time like anything else in life... Just takes repetition, lot's of playing around cluelessly with your art program... and some anger management classes when stuff doesn't do what you want it...

Ok long post, but I just have to make an exciting announcement: Suki and Mika finally slept together for the first time! In Mika's cage, there is a towel slung around a branch like a tube that they have stuffed with cotton balls and use as a nest to sleep in. They also have a nesting box in the corn...

That's what I don't understand about the laws... if flyers have been pets for many many years and even a former president can have a flyer as a pet (I think)- why is it still a law that they can't be pets in some states? Yet other exotics and more dangerous/ damaging animals are allowed no problem. ...
