I believe Indy is gone

After 7 wonderful years with Indy, my flyer I cannot find him. I have turned my house upside down looking for him to no avail. I would love to believe he found his way outside and joined a wild colony, but my house is bottled up pretty well. It is more likely he got into somewhere that he couldn't g...

Sweet Pea Passes On.

I regret to say I found Sweet Pea had passed away some time last night. She had been reclusive for a few weeks, but I thought it was because Indy (my male) was being to aggressive, so I split them up into two seperate bedrooms. At first it seemed to be working as she became less reclusive after a co...

Re: Snack Time!

Hard to believe they like them so much. I just fed my two (Indy and Sweet Pea) meal worms for the first time two weeks ago. They both wolfed them down immedeately. I didn't think to give them more than one, though. In fact, for dietary reasons I have only been giving them one each, every other day, ...

I took these pictures last night. I looks as if her tail is filling in a little, so maybe she gets all of her tail back after all. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/LeeMarsh100/Squirrels005935x702.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/LeeMarsh100/Squirrels006935x702.jpg

Re: Duct Tape Disaster

I'm posting pictureds of Sweet Pea so you can see her tail. It apparently is not going to grow back, so it looks as if she will have this "tapered tail" look going forward. It actually doesn't look bad at all, just different. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/LeeMarsh100/Squirrels00...

Re: Duct Tape Disaster

Jennifer and I were able to remove the tape using baby oil. I held while Jenn gently stroked the tape with the oil until it came loose. She then padded it with a paper towel to soak up as much oil as possible. The last quarter inch of her tail is completely bald, and looks thinner then I would expec...

Re: Duct Tape Disaster

I got home after work and Sweet Pea accepted her pecan like normal. She even chased Indy a little. The tape is still stuck to her though, and follows her around like toilet paper stuck to the bottem of someone's shoe. It looks funny, but I am still a little worried. Jennifer is going to meet me at m...

Duct Tape Disaster

I woke up at 4 am this morning and couldn't go back to sleep, so I decided to vist my flyers, one of which was busy in his excercise wheel. When I went in, I heard my lady flyer on the floor; unusual for her. I turned on my overhead to find Sweet Pea struggling to escape from duct tape that had been...

Thanks. I use a cheaper Kodak Z650 camera that has built in lens and flash. It is only a $340 or so camera, so I don't have the option of switching lenses or flashes. :D

Re: Chipper's Morning Adventures

It is amazing you can get so close with the camera. Are you using background lighting instead of the camera's flash? I would like to do that but Sweet Pea and Indy both run and hide in anything but near blackness, and I don't want to get to close with the flash and blind them.

Re: Getting Rid of Pests

I recently heard a talk show host talk about using white vinegar to kill drain pests. The reason for using this instead of bleach is that the bleach kills the beneficial lizards at the other end of the pipe, where it drains into the sewer. Vinegar will not hurt lizards, but it kills other pests. Jus...

I don't have a picture specifically of the laundry rope circuit, but I have a couple where the rope is hanging in the background. I will see if I can get a picture tonight, although I would only be able to get a small portion at at time.

I did something similar, except using laundry rope. My squirrels hang from it and chase each other around the room. The rope means you can run away from the wall much of the time.

She was in a strange mood. She both ate some veggies (almost never) and didn't run after the first photo. She just sat there staring back at me as if she didn't understand what was going on. It was also early in the evening; there was still daylight in the room, another rare event. Maybe she should...

Yes, I have four calico cats, two of them kittens. For the most part, the flyers don't see them. Occasionally one manages to nose open the door and explore thier room. Problems with Sweet Pea

Moved from Bonding forum: I'm not sure I should be worried or not. My first Flyer Sweet Pea (about 14 months old) is only semi-tame. She was a rescue from Tom Hawk. She has never come out in day light, and I have never been able to close a hand around her; she freaks out and bites me. She will, howe...

Meal worms

I have seen that you can order live mealworms on the internet, and them keep them in the fridge, where they lie in a dormant state. Has anyone else had success with this? Sweet Pea likes the freeze dried ones you buy in a cannister, so I don't want to spend money on something she might not want.

Lately Sweet Pea has been reclusive. I've changed her environment as much as I can, but still, she isn't her usual self. Is there a maternal instinct? Jennifer Steele owns a male (Indy) and we have considered having them co-habitate. Is this a good idea?

Sweet Pea

Just throwing in my two cents. It is my understanding flying squirrels suffer physical injuries in the wild frequently, but don't get sick at all. Southern flyers range all the way up to Canada, sleeping in extreme temperatures, without getting sick. They are much more likely to freeze to death. The...
