It is just her molting. She looses fur on her tail every year, but it grows back. She is doing very well. I actually have 5 flyers now! lol

It may in lack of trace element zinc, so you can change diet for it. If it won't help, you can just take it easy since we have no cheap hair wigs for squirrel.

Thanks for sharing your ideas! We do a lot of luring - clicking our tongues, shaking the tupperware of nuts... yet she seems only to respond late at night. Once she wakes up, she is thrilled to interact - loves to eat out of my hand, even if I just pull something out of the dish she has in her cage!...

Re: Hair loss/bald spots/barbering - any suggestions?

The tail just looks like a regular molt to me - I seem to always have at least one around with that tail stripe. Eventually it should grow in completely - (probably just in time for the next molt!) :D The spot on her chest looks more like an injury of some sort. Perhaps she scraped it on the corner ...

Hair loss/bald spots/barbering - any suggestions?

Hey everyone, I've seen other people post questions about bald spots, and now my furball is having this problem. Sugar has that typical bald line along the length of her tail. She also has a very pink spot on her chest that I have seen her licking/grooming quite a bit. I am putting some pictures bel...

Re: Hair loss on my fuzz balls tail

My Pearl loses the hair along the tail bone every year..almost the entire length. It is evidently part of her moult as there is no problem associated with it. It will fill back in each fall but by late winter or early spring it thins away..only on the top line of her tail bone.

Re: Hair loss on my fuzz balls tail

I have had this happen to several of my flyers from time to time. I never have pin-pointed the reason for it, but it has always grown back in just fine, usually with the next molt. So I don't worry about it any more other than to think 'well, here we go again'. Nothing I have tried has ever made a d...

This could be a diet/nutrition issue. What do you normally feed him?

I agree with Joan, a visit to the vet might be in order. They can take a small scraping of the skin determine if it's allergy, injury or male pattern baldness.

(just kidding about the male pattern baldness)

It looks rather red. It there any way this could be caused by a rubbing against something ... like going thru a nestbox hole that is too small. If not,it's an unusual looking molt (althought your previous photo looks quite normal for one: http://www.nfsa.us/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=8287&...

Hair Loss on Lower Back

Hi Everyone,

I'm worried about my little Rocket. Over the past couple of weeks she has started to lose the hair on her lower back. It appears to only be getting worse. Any idea what this might be? I've included a picture.

Thanks,
Jen

You may get a faster reply if you email Joan or Judy C. I'm not sure how often they read all the posts as both are really busy much of the time. Perhaps you should call the vets office & simply ask if he would treat without reporting. If he sees exotics, he would know how to handle/treat. You w...
