Here he is hanging out (ha ha) in the pouch I made him.. it will eventually look like a calla lily but I'm waiting for the plastic chain to come in the mail (hurrah for ebay). I'm still nervous about actually taking him out of the cage when he's not in the bonding pouch. Hopefully I'll get some bett...

Almonds: toys or food

I've seen Krikkit carrying around almonds all over his cage. He leaves them on the floor. Everything else that he shells, he puts the shells back into the bowls. I'm wondering if he wants to eat the almonds but can't open them or if he's just using them as toys. At 10 weeks should he be able to open...

Rodent pellets

I was looking at a food mix that a store had mixed for flyers. It had lots of nuts (in shells) and seeds and dried fruits. They included some of the rodent pellets. Not the little hamster foot type ones but the big ones (about 1" each). We used to give them to the critters at Petsmart to preven...

I've been looking on ebay for ideas and then making them myself. Most of them are fairly easy if you have a machine and a little time. :) I love this one! The person who was selling it is 920cheryl if you'd like to check out more of their stuff. I was wondering how many of the creative people there ...

This is the easiest way: There is a button when you go to post a message. It says "img". Click that. Then put in the link where your picture is (you can save it to http://www.photobucket.com or another image hosting site first). After the image link, hit the "img" button again, t...

Here is a picture of his cage, all finished.. I think. I don't have him or all the toys etc in it yet... I've got to move it into his spot. I'm trying to think of anything I might be forgetting. I do have a tray to go underneath it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v371/immatater/FScage.jpg

Formal introduction

OK, I've built a big cage, bought some toys and some fleece to make more, bought food, vitamins, wheels... the list goes on. I can now safely say that we are keeping our little fuzzball so I thought I'd introduce him. We have named him Krikkit (Douglas Adams anyone?).

He loves to climb to the very top and hang upside-down. I kept waiting for him to come down but he just stays there, LOL! There isn't room in the small cage for the 5 million toys I'd like to put in  so I'd like to go ahead and move him over. I think maybe I'll try it tonight when he wakes ...

OK, another question... I warn you, I'm full of them. I'm so scared I'm going to do something wrong, LOL. I read on a caresheet that you are supposed to start babies out in a small cage until they are about 5 months old. Why is that? Just for bonding purposes or can they hurt themselves? I just buil...

I was reading on a caresheet that they secrete an oil that keeps bugs (fleas, ticks, lice etc.) off of them. Maybe babies have more for added protection? Just a thought ;)

Closet Case

I am in the process of building a cage for our new furball. I was trying to decide where to put it and I'm thinking a closet. I have three kids so that would give him a nice quiet space during the day. Its a decent sized closet (6'x9') but I'm not sure about the lighting. It gets no natural light bu...

I'm new to flying squirrels but I'm a bug pro. LOL! If you don't live near a petshop, you can order them from http://www.flukerfarms.com in mass quantities. If you only have one squirrel then you might not need so many but if you have a few different pets who eat them or other flyer owners in your a...

I tried finding this one at walmart and had no luck. I ended up getting one by Scotts called Multi-Bird Blend with fruits and nuts. It was about $15 for the bag. I followed the advice I saw someplace on the board and froze the majority of it. Does anyone know if its the same/similar to the one y'all...

Flyers love crickets and june bugs. Happy hunting. No hunting needed (except for the june bugs but they aren't out yet). I have firebellies so I have a supply of live crickets on hand. Fruitflies too but I think they are too small for the FSs. How do you keep the crickets from escaping though?

Feed Flyers Crickets

I keep reading that they can eat crickets. Do they eat live or dead ones? I ask because I also have Firebellies (Frogs) and they will only eat the live ones. If the FSs will eat them dead then that'll work perfectly, LOL!
