Re: Habitat/Cage Ideas??

I'll let you know what worked well for me - I actually learned this from a friend of mine, and it really helps cut down on the smells: I built my own cage, made out of plastic and wire. Materials only cost around $50, and it took about a weekend to put together. Plastic and wire work well because th...

Anyone know if they can have artichokes? They had some of those prepared artichoke hearts in a salad bar at my local grocery store. I want to check if anyone has had any experience before I fed any to Momo!

Re: Bloated, Gastritis?

Wasn't there some issue with using honey in squirrel food? Just a thought (I'm not a pro rehabber or anything), and I know that was mostly a warning for younger pups, but I do remember reading something that honey isn't great for squirrels. It's probably not what's causing any of these symptoms, but...

So, Momo has been going absolutely nuts lately for anything fuzzy (fuzzy slippers, the faux fur in my boots, and so on). She digs herself into it and loves trying to pull it out. Really cute! But.... Awesome cage cleaner!

I found this stuff at a local pet store: http://www.odorandstainremover.com/store/product_s_small.html Works like a charm! And it's all natural/non-toxic/etc. and formulated for small rodents specifically, so it won't harm the squirrels. You can use it for everything (cleaning the cage, cleaning the...

From what I understand, this is normal (though I'm sure a better, more detailed response can be given by a long-time HOF) - my baby squeaks from time to time. Sometimes she'll even just sit there, look at you, and then start squeaking like crazy for a few seconds. Or if we're in another room, she le...

Hehe Joan is right - it is too funny to watch them try to groom and roll over as they try to get their tummies! That phase in my baby's life offered much amusement. If it helps, I found this at a local pet supply store (not Petsmart or anything like that - they stocked this at a locally owned place ...

I've had mine since the end of October, when she was about 6 weeks old. And yes, she is a lot of trouble, but fun too! We love her like crazy, and have discussed off and on getting her a pal one day. So I was curious what people's experiences were when they introduced a new squirrel to an 'only chil...

Have you tried calling around to see if there is a vet in your area who can treat exotics or rodents? A vet would probably be able to tell if they needed antibiotics or something else. I know that's not super helpful, so maybe one of the rehabbers on here can give you more detailed advice.

From what I understand, and through experience, it's a little difficult to litter train them, plus they normally pick a spot they like to 'go' and they go in that area habitually anyways. By nature, they love to do the hang on bars and pee out the cage thing  But, I have found that putting one...

I only use Carefresh bedding, supplemented with some fluffier cotton type hamster bedding - it's supposed to be ok for use with small animals. I don't use cedar in her cage. Over the last few days, Momo has been making this soft "chut chut chut" sound from time to time (very rarely, only once or twice a day that I hear). It's a little like a soft squeak. Is anyone familiar with this noise? Is it a sneeze (and therefore is she sick?) or did she just learn some ...

Good points Joan. I'd add that if any of those sellers were caught doing that, they'd probably be in trouble. Hello! If you're discussing shipping to a state where it is illegal to own a flyer, I'm pretty sure you understand that people can't give you advice on that.
