How much out of cage time does your flyer get?

My fiance asked me to pose this question to the board and see what people said. He was curious to see what the average was. So, how much out of cage time does YOUR flyer get every night, on average?

Also, for fun, here is a picture of Momo tearing into a rose. She loved it. It was rose carnage!

Hi Holly, I think you should still be able to post in the emergency help needed section, but I'm not sure. Give it a try and see what happens :) You should try and feed yogurt that is as low in added sugars as possible. Read the back label for things like "Sugar" and "Corn Syrup."...

Hi Holly, I would still encourage you to post this information on TSB as well, and also continue talking to Joan. I'm not familiar with the illnesses your vet is talking about, but someone might be. I've only ever known the symptoms you've described to be part of MBD (as per other people's descripti...

"The Squirrel Board" is a different message board. It is just more active and it has a lot of rehabbers on there. So you are more likely to get emergency help asap from there. I'd suggest heading over there (http://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/index.php) right away and posting your thread t...

Here is a link to a plan for emergency action treatment for MBD:

I would suggest posting this on the Squirrel Board as well. There are a lot of rehabbers on there with experience in treating MBD. You need to get calcium in your flyer NOW.

Re: What do you with your flyer on vacation?

Well we are leaving for vacation on Saturday and we felt really guilty about leaving Momo at home so.... we built her a new cage. She has upgraded from a "Ford" cage to a "Cadillac" cage. Check it out :) I hope this will keep her occupied while we are gone. We have people coming ...

Re: SFS Sleeps and naps a lot

I'd agree with Joan - it really depends on their mood, time of year, hormones, etc. what is going on with their sleeping. We had Momo out last night and she played like crazy for about an hour, and then zonked out napping in a coat pocket for the rest of the night until we put her away. Other times ...

Isn't it amazing how their mannerisms are identical to the SFS, it appears? They do the head-bob before jumping, glide, and eat all the same way. Gotta love nature.

Re: Need opinions on my FS's diet

I wouldn't put the Rep-Cal in the water - like Joan says you don't really need to overdo it with the supplementation (it can hurt more than it can help) so if you just dust the seed/kibble mix with Rep-Cal it'll be fine. They need to get most of their nutrition naturally from fruits and veggies dail...

That's what I use - just shake a few spoonfuls of it up with your seed mix.

You can also feed your flyer yogurt for calcium supplementation - they really love it! Mine licks the yogurt right off my fingers :)

Re: Need opinions on my FS's diet

I think most people feed the nut n berry mix as their 'kibble,' however none of those feeds are enough. I only replace the kibble about once a week in my flyer's cage (it should be supplemental to their normal diet). They absolutely need fresh veggies, a little fruit, and protein (chicken, egg, etc)...

Re: Moving from NY to PA! Ownership legality?

I see that you also just posted that you do not have a flyer yet - if that is the case, I'd suggest that you wait until you move to PA and purchase one from Keystone Exotics - that way you'll have all the proper paperwork you need and there will be no danger that you'll get fined or that the flyer w...

Re: Moving from NY to PA! Ownership legality?

You should call the local animal control or local city hall - PA is a very squirrel unfriendly state so you'll need to make sure you have your information in line as to local regulations before you move. I really do wish you luck - PA is pretty notorious for not being very helpful to exotic pet owne...

Re: Moving from NY to PA! Ownership legality?

You may want to call the local people and see what you can do - it's illegal to own a flyer in PA unless you got the squirrel from a certified (Game Commission) breeder. There is only one that I know of (where I got my flyer). I'm not sure about importing, but I'd definitely check to see if/how you ...

Momo's Not So Grand Adventure Outdoors

Hi all! My computer is on the fritz, but quickly, Momo got out yesterday night and was up in a pine tree for the past 24 hours. Hmm, I know normally tame squirrels can still get protective over food. Especially if they are hormonal (maybe he's going through a hormone stage right now?).
