Trauma can cause the symptoms as can hypocalcemia (MBD). Surely you can find a vet who treats exotics that wont report you or confiscate your pet....call around and ask with your caller id blocked.

Try one of the many pet odor neutralizers that are availabe today and work quite well. Also conside putting squirel in an temporary cage and take the cage outside for a good scrubbing and rinsing and sun drying.

Sounds like the seizures were hypocalcemic in nature, and she is responding to treatment. Time to evaluate her previous diet and make adjustments to keep the calcium and Vit D3 adequate; just dont over do it. Glad to hear of the good progress.

A veterinarian who specializes or has a special interest in, exoctic animals could help. Treating them is similar to treating other memebers of the rodent family. Be sure they are familiar with the low calcium condition that flyers frequently get.

It could just be something irritating that she tasted or some mild trauma to the throat from swallowing something that may have abraded. It sounds like things are calming down. No persistent vomiting is a good sign.

I am puzzled as to what it might be, actually. Wouldnt hurt to massage in a tiny bit of antibiotic ointment(such as Neosporin) mixed half and half with Cortaid. If there are any pustules (pimple head-appearing) dont use the Cortaid..just antibiotic. Do it twice a day for a while if you are able.

Re: Broken ankle on flying squirrel.

It will be tough to try to keep a splint on a squirrel, so typically they are left to heal naturally. Often the swelling after the break tends to hold the break more in position and making it dangle around less. The quieter they stay, the quicker it will heal as the movement delays healing. Perhaps ...

I use a couple of flagstones which have a sandstone texture. Place them where the flyer has to run/walk on them to get food, move about in cage, etc. That along with the branches that are available during out of cage time, seem to keep them in check.
