Although the link to the USDA clearly states that Flying Squirrels are among pocket pets that do not need to be regulated, the DNR has regulations that prohibit the posession of any native Michigan wildlife. Just to be safe, I would purchase only captive-born flyers and be sure to have a letter from the breeder or pet store. Few of us want to spend money on legal fees, but rather on nuts, seeds, and treats!
