Deb Miller has made arrangments for the 2008 National Flying Squirrel Association's Annual Conference to be held in Natchez, Mississippi at the Country Inn & Suites: http://www.countryinns.com/natchezms The hotel is new, big and right on the riverfront in the middle of the historic old Natchez district. It's surrounded by restored mansions and townhouses, and taverns. The rooms are $99.99 per night. This is the discounted price and comes with a hot breakfast. We may get another price break if we can book more than 10 rooms. The date is set for November 7 & 8th. That's a Friday and Saturday. This should be good, especially if folks want to stay over in Natchez on Sunday.

Our contact at the hotel is the group sales director, Susan- 1-601-446-9994.

There are lots of things to see and do in Natchez. http://www.deepsouthantiqueandwinetrail ... index.html
http://www.natchez.ms.us/
The town is perched on bluffs above the Mississippi River, and has the largest number of pre-civil war buildings all restored to there pre-war condition anywhere. There is also Natchez-Under-The-Hill: http://www.natchezbelle.org/adams-ind/silver.htm where no one in polite scociety would have been caught. The bordellos there are now shops and night clubs. There is also a riverboat casino docked down there: http://www.terragalleria.com/pictures-s ... 38052.html

We will meet and greet up on Friday afternoon/evening, and start with our first activity on Friday evening, along with appetizers. Then we will go to dinner. On Saturday, after breakfast, a morning session will be held. Then we will go to lunch followed by an afternoon session. Then, we'll have some fun in the evening. Breakfast together on Sunday and close our meeting with a business session that will end before noon. For those who would like to tour some of the antebellum mansions: http://travel.webshots.com/photo/101594 ... WDaaVtjoUn we can do it early on Friday, or after breakfast on Sunday.

This year's keynote speaker will be Thomas Risch, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Wildlife Ecology, Department of Biological Sciences, Arkansas State University, Jonosboro, Arkansas and a past speaker at our 2004 Conference. http://clt.astate.edu/biowork/risch.htm

The closest big airports are Jackson International: http://www.jmaa.com/AirportGuide/jan.cfm or
New Orleans: http://www.southwest.com/cities/msy.html

We hope to have volunteers to make a couple of airport runs to save people from having to rent cars. Of course, for those driving from the airport in Jackson, the Natchez Trace is a national parkway: http://www.scenictrace.com/ It is BEAUTIFUL and for those who have never driven part of the Trace, it is the most direct route between Jackson and Natchez, and is well worth seeing.

Deb tried to get us into one of the large B&Bs, but they weren't having any part of anything to do with "rodents around their priceless antiques". The Country Inn & Suites is happy to accomadate our Rugrats. :D
Reminder: Mississippi is a flyer unfriendly state, but the hotel is happy to have them and since it's over a weekend, I doubt any Wildlife Agents will raid us. If they do, we'll run and leave Deb, who lives in Mississippi, trying to explain those long tailed hamster.

Although I don't know that I'll be able to attend, I just wanted to mention that Baton Rouge, La, has an airport (BTR) - and from my neck of the woods, flights from my nearby airports (BWI - Baltimore - and PHL - Philadelphia) to BTR are a bit less expensive, than the cost to MSY (New Orleans, La) Also, Alexandria, La, has an airport (AEX) - and Alexandria, Louisiana, is considerably closer to Natchez, Mississippi, than either NOLA or Jackson ... So, I recommend anyone planning on flying in consider BTR or AEX, in getting best prices

If I can manage some other form of travel - and can arrange for a horse/pony/dog/cat/flyer sitter, I'd love to join the NFSA Natchez gathering! But I have to admit, it's not looking like a strong possibility, just now ... sigh.

And I have rescue babies and 2 babies born here that will be needing HOFs. I can make arrangments for them to be pigked up at conference.

As of now, Spence and I are planning to come, but won't be able to arrive before Friday evening. Hubby has relatives in Natchez, so don't know yet if we'll be staying at the hotel. We sure are looking forward to our first conference!

Tom and I are seriously thinking about being there. We would love to hear and visit with Tom again and hear what new things he has learned. It will be Fri night before we can get there but will start trying to make arrangments. Looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones.

Hi, everyone. Lets get ready to party Mississippi style. It hasn't been long since I was in Natchez and I can guarentee you it is a beautiful place to visit. We will all have to make sure we find a good place there to pick us up some acorns. Can't you just see all of us under those big oaks, stooping over to pick up acorns and everyone wondering what we are doing?

See everyone soon!!!!!!!

Let's have a Hand-Me-Down table too. Bring any items that you have used with your furbutts that they turned up their little royal noses at. Maybe someone else's little angel will love it. Or if you have redecorated a cage and have items that no longer fit in the decor, someone else may find it to be the perfect thing they have been looking for.
Getting excited!!!!! :multi:

Deb may know.

and about the tee shirts?

Jen (freedomjack) was going to check with Wanda about the turn around for mailing them out after the vote. We can always have them mailed to the hotel for pick-up if necessary.

I wish I could be in Natchez with you all -- it sounds like a lot of fun! Unfortunately, I'll be in Dallas for a work conference during that time. Maybe next year I can come & meet everyone.
Have fun!

It looks like Emma and I will miss this year's conference. I really would have liked to see everyone again and catch up.

I don't know if this is already planned or not, but if someone is recording the speaker Tom, I would be happy to encode the video and put it up on the website for folks (assuming that's cool with Mr. Risch...?).

Anyway, I hope everyone has a blast, it sounds like a really great time!

Hi Kevin and Emma,
I sure would have loved seeing you again. Been a long time since Alabama.
Looking forward to hearing what Tom has to say this year. Getting excited about leaving tomorrow for Mississippi.
Maybe you guys up in Tenn can host it next year? That would be great with the trees turning the beautiful fall colors. Hint Hint.
