Aspiration Pneumonia

Postby Joan » Tue May 05, 2009 7:58 pm

Aspiration pneumonia occurs when pups get liquids into their lungs. It is usually fatal within 24 hours if not treated with antibiotics.

Symptoms:
Mouth breathing (gasping like a fish out of water) with clicking sound

Prevention:
Never to feed them on their back - always upright ... at least a 45 degree angle
Feed slowly
Make pup stretch for the nipple (see "Dropper" photo below)
