It is really hot and humid this week so I thought I would give a small cup of water to each of the outside feeding trays. The feeder on the hill has screen sides so I can see real good, with my camera, as they enter and leave. The FS came and would not go into the feeder with the water cup there. I almost removed it but thought maybe she should see it is something good. I don't know if she ever got over the trama of a water cup in the feeder.
Do you think I should not put water there for them? I think they need it and should get use to it. I do want them to eat and have water.

That sounds about normal -- Bunpei is suspicious and afraid of anything new for days and days! The wild ones probably get all the water they need from dew and plant juices. If they won't come to the feeder, they will find their food elsewhere, right? So if they don't get over the new water dishes in a couple of days you may want to remove them so you can still watch the fun!

I think I will take the water cup out tonight. Its so hot out, close to 90 and I thought they would need it but I think they need the food source more.
Thanks for you input.

Mary, it's hotter than that here. Flyers in the wild do adapt to other sources. There's a subspecies in sandy areas of FL that have never been known to drink water directly.

Wow not drink water! I know it is alot hotter in Fla than here. It seems they would enjoy drinking water.
Peanut loves his water and I see the day squirrels and chipmunks drinking from the birdbath fountain. (which spring a leak and needs repaired again)
I tried giving the wildones Kale and greens etc but they don't touch it either.
I took the water cup out yesterday. The 2 little stinkers did not come down to greet me last night at feeding time. Lazy butts.
I guess I won't worry about the water. They just don't know what they are missing.

The sandy soil doesn't hold any water ... they do drink dew or what they get from vegetation.

I think out inhouse flyers drink more than those in the wild.

They'd gradually adjust. I have a friend who leaves out vitamin water.

Yes, don't worry, but you can offer it if you want. They might start demanding Scotch with it.
