Household and Natural Remedies

Postby Joan » Sat Sep 09, 2006 11:18 am

I haven't tried these, but they look good for household and natural remedies:

To disinfect a wound, dab on a few drops of Listerine .. it's a powerful antiseptic.

Kills fleas instantly: Dawn dish washing liquid does the trick. Add a few drops to water and shampoo the furball thoroughly. Rinse well to avoid skin irritations. Goodbye fleas. (and maybe your fingers. )

Eliminate ear mites ... All it takes is a few drops of Wesson Corn Oil in your flyer's ear. Massage it in, then clean with a cotton ball. Repeat daily for 3 days. The oil soothes the skin, smothers the mites, and accelerates healing.

Thanks Joan for the Remedies for our furballs. Now do you have instructions on how to hold these little furballs and keep them still to do these remedies?

If sunflower seeds help for pain, then Peanut will never know what that is. He loves his sunflower seeds..

Goodbye Fruit Flies To get rid of pesky fruit flies, fill a small
glass 1/2" with Apple Cider Vinegar & 2 drops of dishwashing liquid, mix
well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

Get Rid of Ants Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They
eat it, take it "home," and can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, esp. If it rains, but it works & you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!

Wow! Thanks Darra. I have been vacuuming those darm fruit flies for weeks now. I'm going to go mix som of your recipe up right now. They are in this one room where the flyers are.

Terro vs Borax to Kill Ants
Terro is simply liquified Borax and sugar!! For the price of the little bottle of Terro, you can get a very large box of Borax 20 Mule Team laundry booster. Mix about 1/2 cup borax with about the same amount of sugar and sprinkled away. Sprinkle it on the ant trails, entrance points, around the house, etc. They will take it back to the nest and it'll kill them all.
Wet a small bit of it and see what happens. Wow! They love it! They all immediately walked straight into it and started eating. So, again, if you prefer, it's more cost effective to get a big box of Borax, and then what you don't use on ants can be used to brighten your laundry, deodorize your toilet, trash can and refrigerator, and scrub your bathtub!

I'm trying this one. Everyone since my new genealogy room was completed, I've had ants in there. Even before I moved anything in there. Now since the squirrels are there, it's a constant battle. I really don't want to use any incesticide since they run around the floor, and the cats also hang out in there.

Hopefully the cornmeal will work or I'll have to see if our zoo will loan me their anteater. :)

The cornmeal didn't work, but the cats sure like it!

I bought some granules to sprinkle outside. Just have to wait until we have a day without rain.
