Re: Tropical Storm Fay

Fay sloshed through our area on Monday/Tuesday. I know from the horses' water troughs outside that we got at least 10 inches of rain. It rained pretty much for 26 hours straight, but wasn't terribly windy. Then the rain stopped and the winds picked up late Tuesday. It has been blustery and kind of r...

She kicked him out...

Hi guys... sorry I haven't posted in a while - been busy working. News from South Florida is that SuzieQ has evicted Oakley. That would put her right on schedule to have her babies the day I leave for my summer vacation, as she has done in the past. That figures! So she got moved to a new cage last ...

What NOT to do with pantry moth beetles

I keep a small jar by the squirrel cages for pecans. Last night I noticed some of those little pantry moth beetles in it, and took it to the kitchen to clean. I saved the few remaining pecans and tossed the dust and the beetles. Then I thought I should check the larger pecan jar in the kitchen. (Yes...

I use VitaSol liquid multivitamins for hamsters and gerbils. It is the one type that I can consistently find. It says to put 3 drops to each ounce of water. Oscar is acting wierd

Two nights ago, I was watching Oscar run across the floor during play time when he stopped, lay half way on his side, and started scooting around in a circle. I picked him up, and he was perfectly still for a minute or two, then he 'came out of it' and took off like normal. I checked him yesterday d...

Yep, you both are coming to my place. Those babies are so cute.... I don't know you you are gonna pick between them. They are in a 'toddler' stage - trying so hard to be grown up. Yesterday one of them started to groom her face - you know, licked her hand and then wiped her face. She looked so grown...

I met Sara and her family this evening to pick up Tiki for transport to the Wild Bunch Cage. He will be at my house, caged near Suzie, Oakley and Oscar for a few days before hitching a ride up north. I don't think releasing him here is a good idea! Sara (and I) live in subtropical South Florida, which is not going to be an good habitat for flyers. I honestly don't think there is anything here for the little guys to eat - no hardwood trees, no nut producing trees, and what few pines we have are d...

Flyer-sitter needed, South Florida

I am going on vacation this summer from the end of June to the middle of July. I'd love to find an experienced HOF somewhere in South Florida who could flyer-sit my 3 (SuzieQ, Oakley and Oscar) while I am gone. Suzie doesn't come out of her cage much, but the boys love to play so I'd like a situatio...

So that's why she's been grumpy!

SuzieQ has babies! I checked her box last night because she's been hiding herself away, and I saw little pink aliens. They must only be a couple days old. I wanted to keep my fingers attached, so I didn't get a good look, but there were babies for sure! Now comes the hard part - leaving her alone an...

During hurricane Wilma, we were video taping the strongest winds right after the eye passed over. (Gusts were up to 115 mph.) I am pretty certain that the babies were born very close to December 1st. That would make them 5 weeks old now.

Yes, Suzie is beautiful. It is too bad that you can't see her entire body... she is one FAT squirrel! Maybe it is all the waxworms, but her fur is very glossy, too.

Baby play time

When I want to get Suzie's babies out, I get her a tub with a bunch of waxworms. Usually she takes one and runs to her favorite perch and eats it. Last night, instead, she jumps in the tub and started munching. She was so happy that she stayed there while I found the camera and snapped her picture. ...

Ok... I ran across an ad yesterday from a person selling a 6 week old pup. Being a total pushover, I called her to see what the situation is.
