Re: Moving and need advice on where to house squirrels

Hi, The squirrels are moved in to the bathroom, and still quite freaked out from the move. I hope they will calm down soon and be more sociable. The big concern now is that there is not a window in the bathroom. Will this mess up their schedule? Do I need a light on a timer? The only other solution ...

Re: Moving and need advice on where to house squirrels

It turns out that the garage holds the gas water heater, so the fume issue will make it too dangerous. I am now thinking maybe I could modify the upstairs hall bathroom. Maybe build a platform so the wire cage can sit on top of the bathtub. It would make it really easy to clean. I have the rubber ma...

Moving and need advice on where to house squirrels

Hi, I have had my two squirrels Piper and Bonzai for about 2 1/2 years. They started out in the spare bedroom in a 30x24x48" cage from Martins Cages. Then I got an 8x10' "play" tent that I could put the cage inside. Pretty soon the cage door stayed open all the time and they lived in ...

Re: Acorns

It seems that getting another freezer makes the most sense. I am going to check out a used one tonight. I am not sure what it is about the squirrels, but they seem to have an effect that makes doing all of this stuff seem perfectly ordinary.

Re: Acorns

I'm going to freeze as many of the acorns as I can, but how do I keep the rest fresh as long as possible? My mom and I probably gathered 15lbs yesterday afternoon. Some of the ones I gathered a few days earlier have already sprouted. There are oak trees everywhere here and the squirrels are loving t...

Acorns

Can anyone educate me about harvesting and storing acorns? I thought it would be simple, but I am finding that I know nothing about the process.
Thank you

Re: Lump under ear

My boyfriend took piper to the vet and it was an abscess. It was drained after a bit of an uproar chasing her around the examining room - she is fond of running down shirts. They had to give her anesthesia in order to open it. Boyfriend and squirrel are a bit traumatized at this point, but I think b...

Lump under ear

My squirrel, Piper, has a fairly large bump right below her ear. It appeared pretty suddenly 2 days ago. It feels somewhat soft and she isn't thrilled with me touching it. Otherwise she seems to be feeling fine and i haven't noticed any change in her behavior. Any suggestions?

Re: Travel cages

Where did you get it? Most of the smaller cages at petsmart only had the small doors. I finally found one, http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3039699 that had a large door, but I am not completely sure it is what I want. It does seem to be sturdier than some of the ones they were se...

Travel cages

Does anyone have a good suggestion for a flyer travel cage? I have been looking at bird cages, but some are kind of flimsy and I want this cage to be difficult/impossible to escape from.

Re: Free Shipping on Pet supplies

I got a plastic pan and filled it with the carefresh bedding, like you suggested, and put it in the bottom of the cage. Now all I have to do is wait and see what reaction I get. I am starting to think that half the fun of having a flyer is decorating the cage and then watching what happens.

Free Shipping on Pet supplies

Hi everyone, I got this email a few days ago and thought I would pass it along. I have been ordering from this company for 15 years and love the prices and service. They have a lot of small animal and bird products. Also I wanted to ask if anyone has used puppy pee pads to line the bottom of their f...

Flying squirrel mom again

Thanks to Joan I have a sfs again. I am not sure I even believe it yet, it all happened so fast. Joan emailed me Wed. about a rehabber with babies. I contacted him Thursday and got the squirrel this morning. She is currently sleeping inside of my shirt - she seems to want to be against my skin inste...
