Re: Suddenly Possessive/Bitey?

Good to know there's nothing wrong. I managed to get the offending pouch out (its pretty ripped up anyway, been meaning to replace it), and she's back to her old self. Not that its crucial, but is there anyway to prevent further bed-aggression? I do need to take her pouches out reguarly to clean the...

Suddenly Possessive/Bitey?

Ichigo has spent the last 3.5 years being a wonderful, snuggly pet flyer. She's a bit of a couch potato, and would rather sleep on me than run around durring out-of-cage time. But lately, she's gotten really possessive about her sleeping pouch and won't let me near it. This is strange, because I use...

Re: Odd Question for the Rehabbers!

Thank you! Ichigo is 3, so she's not a really young flyer. So we'll make sure that nothing that comes in contact with the bird also comes in contact with Ichi. FI already agreed to take total care of bird stuff, while I take total care of squirrel stuff so there shouldn't be any mixing, but we'll be...

Odd Question for the Rehabbers!

So, earlier this evening my FI and I were leaving the house, and saw a little sparrow on our walkway. Nothing out of the ordinary, but he wouldn't move, even when we got close. We thought something was wrong and got just a liiiiitle closer, and he ran! He got to the stairs and tried to fly, but just...

Haha, while my back was turned, she leaped onto the food bowl & dug in! I guess she was just being fussy b/c I don't give her as many treats as 'grandpa' (seriously, I'm surprised I didn't come home to a furry little golf ball!) Gave her a strawberry piece for being a good girl (I'm such a sucke...

As stated in my post last month in the General Forum, I went to Florance, Italy for a month. I just came back on Saturday. My dad watched Ichigo while I was away; I gave him a list of veggies, fruits & treats & a month's supply of Henry's Healthy Blocks. He kept to her usual diet of 2 blocks...

Re: Fliers at college

I didn't consider getting a pet of any kind in college until A) I was living off campus B) my landlord and roommates were all okay with it and C) I could afford the pet, supplies, food, and, most importantly, time for one. However, I will say that after I met all the above, I found that a flyer was ...

An Issue Involving a Vacation...

My SO is going to Florance, Italy for a study abroad program this summer. It will basically be for the entire month of July, about 4 weeks. I've been sort of invited to go as well, not for study but just to hang out in SO's hotel room and enjoy the city. I'd love to go, as the only international tra...

Re: Question about squirrel blocks???

So, if fruits are bad, and yellow/orange foods are bad, what does that leave for "daily veggies" besides leafy greens & broccoli? I'm thinking about getting some of this Healthy block, since I'm concerned about my Ichi being healthy and it seems like she's not really touching her parro...

Re: Frozen Veggies & Calcium amounts per week

Thanks Joan. I'll stop the yogurt treats as long as she nibbles her cuttle bone. I guess I was getting worried about her nutrition lately, b/c she seems to be sleeping a lot and isn't too active. But then again, I don't know what she does between 12-8am, hopefully she's up and running around then.

Frozen Veggies & Calcium amounts per week

Question the 1st: Is it okay to give (or do you know flyers who will/not eat) thawed frozen veggies? Since I'm only buying produce for the 2 of us, I am hesitant about buying a huge head of broccoli just to steam some for myself and give a pinch to Ichigo, but I buy it frozen so I can just use a han...

Lol hope its been long enough you're not sick of me! I think Ichigo is as bonded to me as she's going to get. We play every night, and by play I mean I sit in our camping tent with my laptop/homework while she jumps around a little, goes in and out of my shirt, and sleeps in my sweater. One of these...

Re: First Steps?

Good luck with your little one. Have patience and you will be successful. I wish, though, that people would be less anxious to "expect" their flyers to act certain ways or give them trust and friendship quickly. I know they are cute and you want them to want to be with you so you can cudd...

Just wanted to update you guys, since you all helped me out with advice. Cage Suggestions: Door Size

I have some Christmas money that I'd like to put to buying Ichigo a bigger cage (I mentioned the specs of her current cage in another thread), but as I'm browsing the web, I noticed that the large cages all have larger door openings, and here's my problem: Since she's not bonded, when I need to take...

Okay Cage Size?

I browsed some of the older bonding threads, and saw a mention that flyers can get anxious about small spaces if they're kept in a small cage. I bought the biggest cage I could find for Ichigo, but it's only 21x15", and 30" tall. I know it should be bigger, but as a college student, cages ...

Re: First Steps?

I too bought a FS from Mike. His name is Gizmo. I have had no problems with him at all. He ate from my hand almost right away after getting him home. From there on, I just let him set the pace. He does not like the bonding pouch at all. I just let him out and let him run on me and all over the room...

Ichi just ate a small piece of a "naturally flavored" french onion wheat thin. Couldn't get it away from her when I tried. Anything I can do to help her not get sick?!? UPDATE: Called Animal Poison Control. They said not to worry, since rodents aren't as susseptable as say, dogs, and she'd...

Ichigo so far has already stolen the small jingle bell that was on my cellphone (it must look like a shiny, un-crackable nut!). I cleaned Ichigo's cage today, using baking soda & warm water. I quickly wiped down her branches (w/ a washcloth that had some baking soda on it, didn't rinse them b/c the amount was so small), 'cause they had some messy bits, and a few hours later, she's LICKING the branches like they're just t...

Re: First Steps?

I thought bonding pouches were bad, because they don't like feeling contained? The other day, I tried holding her hampster hammock in my shirt while she slept, but removing it from the cage woke her up, and all she did was claw at my shirt & fuss around trying to escape. After 20 minutes, I just...

After 3 weeks, I think she's tolerable of me, at least. She will sniff & hop on my hand when I put it in the cage (but jumps off when I move) & uses me as a ladder between the floor & ceiling of our tent (I have claw scratches on my face. Learned to not look up). I'd like to try shirt-ti...

What products do you use to clean your flyer's cage? I purchased a wet wipe-type product designed for bird cages, and it works okay, but the scent is.... less than desirable (its unscented, but the natural smell of it is... pretty close to a dirty cage). My mother used to buy a line of cleaning prod...

Would it stress her to be in a new place for a day, so soon after coming home to me? I'm mostly worried about freaking her out with too many new things during bonding time and such, especially since next weekend I'll be taking her to my dad's house for a week for Thanksgiving break.

Even though my flyer's not bonded to me yet, I might need to do a bit of travelling with her (about a 2 hour car trip).
