Re: Having a House Guest

As a follow-up to this question. Puck is a real sweetie. If he is exposed to a female and mates could he become more aggressive afterwords in the long term? That happens with some animals..

Having a House Guest

We are being asked to squirrel-sit for a week or so (southern flyers...) Problem is that little Puck is a boy, and the house guest is going to be his sister. If they shared the same cage or play-space, how likely is it that little squirrels are going to be the end product? They are both about ten-el...

Re: Wodent Wheel

So, we have our Wodent Wheel. It is in his cage and has been there for two weeks or so... So, how do we get him to use it?

Wodent Wheel

I was contemplating a wheel for our little Puck, and have been considering the Wodent Wheel. I'd happily listen to any suggestions on whether to get one, and if so, what size should one get for a SFS?

Re: Two Pups Found - We are doing our Best

Thanks for all the help and concern. All is well. They both took readily to real food and weaned themselves a little early. I have decided to keep the boy, Puck. A friend and her doting mother have adopted the girl. Sorry I hadn't responded sooner. Here is a pic of the two of them at 5+ weeks, and a...

bookcase conversion

I have been debating a traditional cage v/s wood with hardwarecloth. My juvi pup ( now named Puck) doesn't seem to like the vertical bars in the small cage I got for him. That or there is too much exposure. As a pup I had him in a Tent style pet carrier that he could scramble around every which way ...

Re: Two Pups Found - We are doing our Best

Well their eyes opened on Monday and are taking up to 2cc per feeding. I've tried giving them pine nuts to which they had little interest. Grapes on the other hand were taken eagerly all the way up to their ears! So as not to overdo it I did limit them to 1/2 each. But now my boy has soft poo, almos...

Re: Acorns?

How are Southern Live Oak acorns for flying squirrels? Have lots of those around here along with some Laurel Oaks. Any advice on them?

Re: Acorns?

It is raining acorns in my yard like the sky is falling. I was wondering how long can they be stored? Also on another thread someone had mentioned being careful about parasites from wild foods. Is freezing them enough to safeguard against this?

Re: Two Pups Found - We are doing our Best

So, to update....I did put the pups on pedialite for three feedings and bloat reduced and urinating seemed more normal. I was adding cream to the formula, I have since adjusted to plain Esbalac and things seem to be going well. They both weigh in at 20g. Each takes just about .75cc every feeding (2-...

Re: Two Pups Found - We are doing our Best

We have improved our feeding equipment and technique and they are both eating better. I have concerns though that I don't know what "bloated" looks like. Their bellies seem rounder and they aren't producing any waste. One friend advised that if they were bloated they would also likely lose...

Two Pups Found - We are doing our Best

We found a pair of flier pups on a mountain biking trail in mixed pine scrub in Central Florida. One of our group wrecked behind me and I trotted back to check on her. (The "her" is actually the name on this account. She is at work and I wanted to start asking questions as soon as I was ap...
