the cowardly lion...

My flyer, Digit, is about 8 months old now. He is very clingy and pretty much hates to be out from under clothing. When I take him out he goes under my shirt, or in my pocket if I have loose fitting pants on. He will poke his head out but rarely will come all the way out for very long if you don't l...

Re: Support Venette Walker

How old is the pup/ how old was it when you got it. Is the tail filling out or is it still thin? I got my pup from helen at an estimated 5 weeks and the tail was a bit thin but at 8 weeks now it has really filled out the rest of the coat is much thicker and softer as well.

Re: New Baby

Your baby is just adoreable. Congrats! Does he/she have a name yet? His name is Digit. Its only been a little over a week but I cant believe how much he has grown already. His fur is much thicker and his tail has really flattened out also his overall size has increases substantially I don't own a g...

Temperature for pups

There seems to be some conflicting info on the boards. I have read that its perfectly OK to introduce a pup to his full size cage at 5 or 6 weeks. But it also states in the feeding pups thread that pups need to be kept at 85-90 degrees to digest formula properly. I doubt anyone keeps there house at ...

he is a boy, Pocket came to mind but that has been done and then I thought I was really clever with Fievel because he is so small and mouselike right now but thats taken too. I am leaning towards calling him Beast but the jury is still out on that one. I am mostly just curious as to the names of eve...

Names

I am still figuring out a name for my new flyer I want something original. It seems like everytime I come up with an idea I do a search and its usually mentioned in a post because someone else has a flyer named that already. So what are the names of everyones flyer/flyers past and present. I am look...

Re: Support Venette Walker

I dont have a flyer yet, I am still in the process of trying to find one. But I'd just like to mention that I have emailed Venette Walker twice about a month ago and left her a voice mail about a week and a half ago and she has still not replied to me at all. That alone is enough that I won't give ...

I tried the whole stimulate thing and he wants none of it. He is definitely eliminating on his own I have seen his droppings and have finally seen an actual wet spot where he peed which was no more than a drop or two but I still know he is going so I am not going to worry about it. The urine is defi...

Re: New Baby

If my little guy was to young to ship he doesn't seem to know it. He got off the plane with no signs of stress and eats and plays great. My experiences with Venette have been great she is very nice on the phone and seems to genuinely care about the pups.

Re: scent?

He usually eats 1.5-2 syringes of milk 3 times per day whatever that works out to in cc's. He does eat some solid foods as well he loves apple slices although he wont touch the peel and of course pecans he seems to ignore most other things in his food mix. Yesterday I made a double batch of formula ...

Re: scent?

The formula is whatever powdered formula mix Venette Walker sent with him. I have been mixing 1/2 tsp water with 1/2 tsp of the mix with 1/4 tsp of heavy whipping cream which is what Venette recommended. I mix this small batch, a whopping 1 1/4 tsp total, in the morning and keep it in the fridge all...

New Baby

I just picked up my new baby boy from Helens Little Critters. It was about 25 degrees for a high today in Mass but he showed up just fine with his little heat pads. He is very friendly and doesnt seem at all stressed out from the travel. He ate 2 syringes of milk when I first took him out of his nur...

Re: Intelligence?

For anyone that has taken any psychology classes, positive reinforcement is a very powerful tool. I have seen video of goldfish taught to do simple tricks in return for foods. Clearly a squirrel has an intelligence level far above a goldfish and has the capacity to learn tricks in theory. They are a...

I have also heard squirrels can be taught tricks although I am not sure what people have been successful in teacher their flyers. A...

Bonding Time

I was wondering what hours are appropriate for bonding time at this time of year. I am hoping to get a flyer from Helens Little Critters sometime soon but have recently started a new job and don't exactly think they would be keen on a flyer coming to work with me. I work 7am-3pm but am gone from the...

Re: Can you put a Squirrel and a Sugar Glider together?

I've wondered whether or not chipmunks could make decent pets. Have never heard of anyone rescuing them, but would assume its been done. I've thought the likelihood of encountering abandoned pups would be slim since they nest underground. Observing them over the years in our yard, parks, etc., they...

one more quick tip. If you can add just one piece of relevant information to the wikipedia page on southern flying squirrels, it can be as little as one sentence, you can then add a footnote to with a link to your page at the bottom of the wiki article which is sure to bring some traffic to your sit...

I think you basically want everything that can be found on the NFSA website as well as in the forums, compile it all down into a neat package full of relevant information but not wordy with to much excess. An all encompassing pet flyer website better than anything else on the net. As you said a care...

Its been out of print for a long long time but there once was a book called The Golden Book of Wild Animal Pets by Roy Pinney. New (old) Cage

I am hoping to get my first flyer shortly from Helen's Little Critters. I found a cage on craigslist from a guy that used to own flyers. Its a Curio Cabinet style cage wood and hardware wire. roughly 2 x 2.5 x 4.5' living space plus about 2' for storage under the cage. The guy had 2 flyers that died...
