Amanda loves the caps. I get a box/pack of the small/medium ones and just take the stem off before giving one to her.

Stapled wire to the basic frame using a power stapler and short staples. I got to "help" keep the wire taunt. It really wanted to curve. Power nailed the second set of 2x4s. Did not use any glue, afraid it would not be good for her if she chewed. I won't be be where it is until next month,...

Have you looked at the threads under Flyer Housing? If you use the search feature and search on Martin’s you will find other relevant stuff. Jeff made Amanda's portable cage. He spent more on materials than it costs to buy the largest one from Martin’s. But it is very handy for traveling and she lov...

Have you checked how they are holding her?
Make sure they aren't clutching. The more Nieve bites, the more they will tense up.

freezing

Freezing into cubes works great, but put just a small spoonful into each cube of the freezer tray. Don't try to fill the space up completely. I transfer the frozen cubes into a small zip lock freezer bag. Amanda gets her first serving from the jar on the lid, which I wash and save after she has eate...

mouse friends

Ever so often we hear rustling noises and know to put out the humane trap. Caught 3 field mice in the last 48 hours in our attic. Plan to turn them loose outside this weekend if it gets warmer. Amanda is fascinated. She keeps looking at them. Is there much chance of her catching something from them?...

Thanks for the suggestions. I was barefoot. Always kick off my shoes when in the house. I'll do a water garden in a baking dish and put out shallow pans of water near the furnace. Just touched Amanda and sparks flew off of her paw (from our overly dry air).
She retreated to her upper perch, looked at her hands, wrang them a couple of times, and gave me a really funny look.

Just put Neosporin on it. The bare end will probably wither and eventually fall off on its own. We had a gray squirrel that stripped off about 3/4 of the end of her tail, looked like she may have caught it in the door of a trap. She was tame enough that Jeff put the pain killer kind of Neosporin on ...

Northerns live in Maryland and WVa too.
There are now enough in WVa. that they may be removed from the endangered species list there.
