Not Too Thrilled About This - Part 2

Post by Judy C. »

The first time I threw this thread title out there - (part 1, although I didn't realize it then) - was April 13, 2008. Then it was to announce that I had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Today it is to say that I have just been diagnosed with bone cancer. It is showing up on my ribs, my spine, and my pelvic bone. Although they don't know exactly what kind of cancer it is yet, they have already started treating it. I will be going in for a biopsy this week, I hope, and should know more soon. (One thing I already know is that bone cancer is a lot more painful than breast cancer!)

I don't know yet whether or not I will be doing any more rehabbing, but I certainly hope so. I don't know what I would do without babies around - I can't even imagine it!! When I find out more, I'll let you know. There may be a lot of cages for sale here in Texas one of these days, but I hope not.....I want to keep saving squirrels.

Keep thinking good thoughts for me - I need all the help I can get right about now.

From Judy's daughter:
Hi everyone! Not really sure this belongs here but I figured y'all could
move it if need be. Any how, I'm Lace daughter of Judy Call. As you may know
she's need fighting cancer. That is going very well, the chemo is working
great!
Unfortunately this past Saturday she fell and broke her hip. She had surgery
on it and seemed to be healing well, less pain and was able to move easier.
Well, yesterday she began having respiratory issues and they moved her to
ICU. This morning they are going to put her on a respirator. I'm en route to
the hospital now...
If you guys would like I can continue to post updated here, and pass on any
messages.

Thanks,
Lace

Morning update- Well, the O2 levels have been 90% or above for over 24 hours
now... WOO-HOO!!!! They have her on an anti-anxiety med every 4 hours and I
think that is gonna make a world of difference.
Her resperation has vastly improved, and they have removed the wrist
restraints!
Bottom line... Squirrel Power works!!!

Next update won't be til later tonight. I truly appreciate the outpouring of
love and support from you guys. I take the time to read each & every post...
In fact I start at the beginning and read them each all the way through
every time I log in. Just thanks... *sniff*

2-20-2012

Update: She's doing so well! Her O2 is still above 90%, and she is getting
"feisty" as one of the sweet nurses put it. She is aggravated because she
cant get out of bed, can't take off the O2 mask, can't communicate... its
hard to understand her with the mask on, and can't really have water as much
as she'd like. The better she gets, the more I'm afraid she's gonna be her
own worst enemy, lol! The 2 times today they removed the O2 mask to give her
a drink while I was there, here oxygen didn't even drop below 90! I have
high hopes that the mask'll be off by the end of the week.
I give her updates about your posts here for her and I know she enjoys
hearing that so many of you are thinking of her! When she gets out of ICU
I'll bring my laptop up and let her read for herself, and post her own
updates!

UPDATE: I really hat to post this one... Momma was put on a
respirator/ventilator this afternoon. She had been doing so well for the
past few days, but she began declining last night. I spoke with her
oncologist and her new lung Dr, and both agreed that the respirator is the
best option at this time. I was shown her x-rays; one from several months
ago, one from the day she went into ICU, one from Sunday, and todays. Her
lungs were very cloudy the day she went to ICU, they were noticeably cleared
on sunday, and sadly today they wer clouding back up. I really think her
state of agitation in being unable to talk, drink, get out of bed, and that
dang O2 mask added to her relapse. Anyhow, they are not sure exactly what
they are seing in her lungs and have been unable to do any tests because she
wasn't staBLE enough. Now that she is on the machine they will be able to
run any needed tests. However, due to her doing so well so quickly after
going onto the oxygen I really believe she will clear up quickly now with
this more aggressive treatment AND with her being sedated and unable go get
herself all frustrated and worked up for the duration. They said she will
not even remember being on the machine and that is good. I will let y'all
know how she is doing, but for now she is resting comfortably and looks
really good.

Received this information for NFSA member Mariam Stein:

"Judy died yesterday in the hospital from pneumonia. I'm not sure how much you knew about her situation but she's been battling cancer and then fell and broke her hip and went back to the hospital. It was after her hip surgery that she got really sick but she had told a friend that she'd lived a good life and was "ready." Let me know if you have questions and if you need more help with NFSA. Might not be me but there are other people that can jump in. Everyone's devastated.

Miriam"

Here's the latest from Judy' daughter. These are all cross post from The Squirrel Board and you can read the complete posts there: http://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/show ... post730736

"I would like to let you all know how much your posts of support have ment to my family and I, but unfortunately there is no way i can really express it. I cried as I read all the posts you have all made since her passing. She often spoke of you guys, and some I know by your real names, others by your boardnames. She ment so much to so many people. I would like you all to know that she passed peacefully with me snuggled up to her in the bed.

We spent the day today with my Daddy enjoying the beautiful weather and playing with the squirrels and guinea pigs

In lieu of flowers,Momma would rather have donations made in her name to an animal welfare program such as the Humaine Society... she did not have any particular charity in mind, altho I know she thought PETA was pretty much a load of crap, lol.

Daddy and i plan to continue releasing squirrels that are ready to be released, but we won't be rehabbing at the level they were.

Well, I think I have rambled on enough for now, I hope you guys allow me to remain a member to the board, I'm sure at some point I'll need squirrel help... my children have a knack for finding injured squirrels, not to mention a deep natural love for all animals.

Anyhow, I'm fairly sure at some point my posts will be more coherent! (and have less spelling errors!)

A Tribute to Judy Call

Post by furballgenetics »

:angel13:

It has been a year since Judy Call passed away, and I wanted to say that I miss her a lot! The last few years we didn't keep in touch as much as when I first got Rascal, but we always talked around the holidays. We would touch base and I would see if she needed any pecans from my local pecan farm for the "Wild Bunch" cage. I dared not talk to her during the flyer breeding season, for fear that she would FINALLY talk me into getting a girlfriend for Rascal. She was a hard lady to so no to  Actually, the last time I saw Judy was when I brought her one of my Spanish Timbrado canaries. She loved canaries too.

Judy was such a wonderful, warmhearted, thoughtful, and kind lady. She was so patient with me during the process of getting Rascal. I think she enjoyed the two of us meeting, just as much as we did. Little did I suspect how much of a friendship with Judy would grow out of that initial meeting, or the deep bond that has grown between Rascal and myself. I was in a very difficult spot in my life when I became a HOF and I will be forever grateful to Judy for introducing me to Rascal. It has made such an incredible difference in my life.

So to Lance, Lace, & the entire Call family... Please know that Judy is greatly missed and that she touched many lives in this squirrelly little world of ours. She made a BIG difference in mine. Rascal & I send our sincerest condolences. If you ever need some pecans for the "Wild Bunch"... Just let us know.

Awww.... has it been a year already? I never met her in person, but I cried when I found out that my internet flyer friend had passed. She was a really nice lady.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I just wanted to say I am very saddened to hear of Judy's passing. I believe i was only active on these boards at the time for part 1 of her battle. She was always so nice and helpful on both this board and the squirrel board. Blessings to Judy an her family who she now watches over and guides.
