learning to love a wheel

Postby lynn » Tue Sep 04, 2007 11:54 pm

I purchased a new wheel last week, because my guy wouldn't use the one he had before. He is still suspicious of the wheel, and won't go near it even to pick up treats. Any suggestions, or is it a wait-and-see venture. He is demonstrating some repetitive behavior that I was hoping to nip in the early stage.

Peanut will not run in his stealth wheel but will get grab acorns out of it. If it moves while he is in there then he jumps out.

I will always keep it in his cage for a nice decoration only.

Sometimes it takes them awhile to start using it.

I think we may now fit in the "decoration-only" category. I tried a Wodent wheel for about a month, and now a stealth wheel. I know Bunpei retrieves treats from the wheel because they are definitely gone after a night or two. He will play on a stationary wheel that is resting in a box on the counter. Once or twice he accidentally grabbed the outside of the wheel by accident, and can't let go until it slows down. Then he is freaked out and hides in his pouch.
I guess it will stay in the cage for when he gets a baby brother.
