bookcase conversion
I have been debating a traditional cage v/s wood with hardwarecloth. My juvi pup ( now named Puck) doesn't seem to like the vertical bars in the small cage I got for him. That or there is too much exposure. As a pup I had him in a Tent style pet carrier that he could scramble around every which way ( mostly upsidedown!) and it provided more privacy. Taking that and the fact I don't really like the look of cages leads me to this post. I am seriously considering buying a bookcase with glass doors that I could convert to wire. I figure I would open up the sides and possibly the the top as well. If I lined the entire interior with wire cloth would that prevent chewing on the wood? I understand the need to seal it well to enable cleaning. By ensuring that such sealer is non toxic would that protect him from the original paint that I'm not so confident about? The other concern I have is it is 14 in. deep. I know you recommend a min of 18 but given that it is 31 in. wide I was hoping that the square footage would be ample. I really want it to be something we're BOTH happy with. Any advice or warnings?

He'll like the hardware cloth as it's easier to climb than the vertical bars.

Take a look at the one Jackie, on TSB, built or rebuilt or modified. It's in post #13, the 8th and 9th photos, I believe. I love the bright red color!
