Cheeps Lost her Tail

Postby Kay » Wed May 02, 2007 9:53 pm

Image

Cheeps is a baby I rehabbed last fall. I took her to my niece in Montana because she lost fingers and had the same spots on her tail that looked like the bumps on her fingers before they fell off. The vet was not sure what it could be, but thought of possible crushing injuries from the tree that fell with her. She said the tail would go too. It only just fell off when I was in Montana in April.
No, she does not look like a hampster. She looks like a flying sqrl who lost her tail  She still jumps to me and dives my shirt, just like when she was a baby. Now, she goes to the small of my back and hangs out.

Poor baby! What is the chances of it growing back?

I was wondering the same thing. I thought they used their tail like a rutter??? I guess they can "jump" with out using the tail as a guide. Most interesting. Thanks for the Pictures. She is a cutie.

She jumps very short distances and I've never seen her spread her wings. She's a wheel and cage runner, very active, but nope, no gliding. I think her tail ends have been dying off, I never saw her curl it either. It just hung there.

She's precious even without a tail.

Cheeps got no tail ... Frosty got no puffs! Is it you Kay?

Aww poor baby. Cute pictures.
I am so glad you resued her and can keep her. There is no way she could make it in the wild.

I hope no more problems for this little one.

Let's see ... between Deb and Kay, we have a tailless flyer who can only jump. A paraplagic flyer who hops in the wheel and a penisless flyer who now humps, but doesn't know why. And Tom who is a supplier of such flyers.

And don't even get me started on Wanda who drags in all sorts of creatures. Judy's the only sane rehabber we have and I'm not all that sure about her.

Some of Cheeps' tail may start growing back.
We had something similar with a gray.
Sadly she died about a year ago after fighting with a gang of really vicious young squirrels.

Alright, Joan is picking on us rehabbers! If it is alive and breathing, I take it. Now I have 7 bunnies, a chipmunk and 3 baby cardinals.

Don't forget Judy's grey squirrel who is paralyzed in the hind legs, and gets around the cage by using the cieling of it like monkeybars!

I'be had grays and flyers who lost parts of tails and the hair on the end of the grays grew really long. Nubbin's tail had about one inch of bone and about four inches of just hair past the other hairs == which made her be able to pitch a fit and display her warnings.
