Yes, they learn to adjust to not having a whole tail. Since the tail is not used for 'steering', but instead is used as balance and 'drag' when landing, it seems to be no big deal to them. It doesn't seem to affect the gliding ability at all. This is my own opinion, from my own observations....nothing that I have any scientific proof of.
