Random Death of our 2 Year and 8 Month Old flyer

Postby lllubeck » Mon Jun 17, 2019 11:18 pm

Our flyer passed away unexpectedly yesterday and we’re trying to figure out how. He was 2 years and 8 months old and appeared healthy. We bought him from a breeder at 8 weeks old and he has never showed any indication of
health issues. We recently bought and moved into a new house. We were wondering if the move could have stressed him or made him depressed. Two days ago we played with him and he seemed fine. The only odd thing he did out of the ordinary was that he was licking the outside of his water bottle, i dont know if he was looking for salt or something from our hands after we refilled his water. My fiancé’s work schedule changed and he was
on overnights for the last few months which limited his time with our flyer. Could it just have been depression? Or is their lifespan really not 10 years as it says online? He had fruit, nuts, and protein blocks from Henry’s.. and a cuttlebone in his cage. We don’t believe it was diet
related. Could our air conditioning have been on too high? We’re really upset not knowing what happened or how he went from active and healthy to dead a day later. Any information would be great.

So sorry for your loss. There is really no way to know the cause of death without a necropsy and even then sometimes there are no answers. You can guess at all kind of things but in the end, it's just guessing. In the wild, they are lucky if they live to 5. In captivity the life spans range all over the place.
